MY APPROACH

The human experience is innately difficult, and I believe that anyone and everyone can benefit from therapy. In my own personal experience and in my experience working with others, having a relationship with a trained psychotherapist that is separate from any other relationships and aspects of your life is invaluable in helping to free oneself from negative experiences and patterns of the past, helping to more skillfully navigate life’s difficulties and challenges, and helping to increase access to joyful and pleasurable experiences. I believe that psychotherapy is a process that can help us to heal from the past, live better in the present, and provide more space and freedom to create our future.

I take a relational, person centered and collaborative approach to working with clients which prominently integrates mindfulness, somatic therapy, attachment theory, and parts work. I am humbly committed to anti-oppressive practice, social justice, cultural safety and humility, and providing trauma and violence informed care. I acknowledge my privileged identities and affirm my commitment to an ongoing process of learning and growth in these areas.  I continually strive to bring an open, curious, non-judgemental, and compassionate outlook to my work with clients.

Although I have experience working in several specialty areas, I acknowledge the wide and complex array of challenges that people face. Sometimes people contact me because they have general emotional difficulties, challenges in their relationships, or are having trouble connecting to positive experiences of joy or happiness. Others reach out because they’re struggling with depression, anxiety, the impacts of trauma, substance use or other mental health issues. I seek to connect with individuals wherever they are at in their life’s journey to support healing, growth, and the betterment of their life. Consequently, I welcome anyone to reach out to me for a free introductory call to see if what I can offer may be a fit for you.

 Modalities

  • A body centered psychotherapeutic modality that understands the neurobiology of trauma and trauma resolution and draws on the wisdom and memory of the body in the therapeutic process. This approach works both relationally and at the sensori-motor level to address trauma imprints and the impact of trauma on the nervous system.

  • Approaches psychotherapy with an understanding of attachment theory and prioritizes the therapeutic relationship as a site of relational repair. This approach examines how childhood relational experiences impact future relationships and seeks to assist clients to develop healthier and more secure relationships.

  • An approach to psychotherapy that sees human beings as complex systems of interacting “parts” or sub-personalities, as well as a core Self which is connected, compassionate, calm, and curious. This approach supports individuals to explore and understand their own unique inner system and helps them to heal their protective and wounded inner parts enabling them to move towards greater Self knowledge and leadership.

  • Incorporates meditation, mindfulness, relaxation, and awareness exercises in the psychotherapeutic process to help clients to focus on the present moment and increase the ability to observe their thoughts, alleviate stress, and reduce reactionary behaviours.

  • A psychotherapeutic approach that is based on the principles of motivational psychology and is designed to help people find the motivation to make positive behaviour changes. This is a client centered approach which does not attempt to guide individuals in any specific direction, but rather assists in exploring one’s intrinsic motivation for change.

  • A psychotherapeutic method which employs compassion and curiosity to acknowledge and examine traumatic events that occurred in childhood, recognize the beliefs may have been internalized as a result, and feel the emotions that have been suppressed. This process contributes to an opportunity for healing in which individuals can release themselves from these stories and emerge in to new and more authentic ways of being.

  • Follows the principles and practices of Emotion Focused Therapy to restore connection and promote resilience in family relationships. The principal goal of this modality is to re-establish more secure family patterns where attachment and caregiving responses are effective and emotional bonds are repaired.

  • Incorporates elements of harm reduction, psychedelic-assisted therapy, and psychoeducation to provide support to clients in preparation for and/or integration of psychedelic experiences of all kinds including retreats, community and religious ceremonies, self-directed microdosing, meaningful and challenging recreational experiences, amongst others.

  • An emerging therapeutic approach that combines the supervised use of a psychedelic medicine and psychotherapy. This approach involves three distinct phases: 1) Preparation, 2) Medicine experience, 3) Integration. The direct impact of psychedelic medicines on brain activity can result in profound insights and promote introspection, emotional release, and cognitive shifts. Such experiences serve as catalysts for the psychotherapeutic process, and it is important to emphasize that the non-psychedelic preparation and integration aspects of this approach are essential its effectiveness and safety.

Please note that psychedelic-assisted therapy with MDMA or psilocybin currently requires special authority from Health Canada’s Special Access Program and follows strict approval criteria. Ketamine-assisted therapy is currently available for eligible clients with a physician’s screening and prescription.
